With great success the V Intensive Course of Arthroscopy for Residents was recently organized by Dr. Gelber and hold at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona. The course, already a classic within the Spanish educational landscape, attracted 150 residents of 4th and 5th years of the specialty. Around 40 expert professors gave [...]
A 52-year-old patient with lateral chondral injury and rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament. The reconstruction of the ACL was performed concomitantly with the implantation of the UNICAP resurfacing unicondylar lateral prosthesis. It is much less aggressive than conventional UNIs and allows a much faster recovery. It is mainly indicated for patients with higher functional [...]
In this patient, three treatments were performed in the same surgery. The patient had a chronic tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and a symptomatic genu valgus with a lesion of the cartilage in the medial femoral condyle. Therefore, a reconstruction of the ACL with semitendinous tendon, a valgus tibial osteotomy and a combination of [...]
Dr Gelber was the international professor invited to the Resurfacing Arthroplasty Course organized by Arthrosurface. Specifically, he was in charge of teaching to 40 attendees from all over Europe, the benefits of patellofemoral inlay prostheses. It changes the paradigm of traditional patellofemoral prostheses in which the knee is "adapted" to the prosthesis. With this system, it [...]
In young patients with invalidating knee pain due to early osteoarthritis of the patellofemoral joint (anterior region) secondary to dysplasia (alteration in the shape) of this area of the knee, fresh osteochondral transplantation of both articular surfaces is the best alternative. We thus avoid the implantation of a prosthesis at very young ages.
On September the 6th, 7th and 8th, Dr. Gelber attended the meeting of the ESSKA Board (European Society of Arthroscopy and Knee) in his role as chairman of the Arthroscopy Committee and Chairman of the Working Group of Collateral Ligaments of the Knee. This meeting was held in the city of Saint Tropez, France, and [...]
A 35-year-old patient with a severe articular cartilage lesion in three different areas of his right knee. There were extensive injuries in the patella, trochlea and medial femoral condyle. By transplanting fresh cartilage (fresh osteochondral allograft), this devastating condition can be salve out. Otherwise, the patients should undergo metal knee arthroplasties (prostheses).
On May 29 was broadcasted the extensive interview made to Dr. Gelber due to its central role in the field of fresh cartilage trasnplantation in early knee osteoarthritis. These patients are too young (under 45 years) for a total knee arthroplasty, and they see this alternative as the only way out for their intense pains [...]
Dr. Gelber has just published two new techniques of fresh cartilage transplantation. This surgeries are indicated for the treatment of disabling pain due to early osteoarthritis in young patients. Both studies have been published in the prestigious journal Arthroscopy Techniques. You can download both articles on the Research page.
From May 24 to 27, the 6th AEA-SEROD Congress was hold in Zaragoza, Spain. This congress brings together the most distinguished arthroscopy and knee specialists from Spain and other parts of the world. Dr. Gelber, once again, had an outstanding participation in several symposium. Specifically, he showed his experience in the treatment of recurrent patellar [...]
